AUSTRALIAN MANUSCRIPT ASSESSOR

Do you need a professional editor to assess your manuscript?

Whether you are looking for a fiction manuscript assessment or a non-fiction manuscript assessment, you need someone with editing and publishing experience.

You need someone who will read your manuscript start-to-finish, write a report and leave some comments or tracked changes throughout your document.

What are manuscript assessments for?

Manuscript assessments are for writers who are clever enough to seek a professional opinion prior to sending to publishers or agents. It is like a book review, but tends to have more of a sales focus. After all, a manuscript assessment is a tool for the author to use when seeking an agent, a publisher or deciding if there is a business case for self-publishing their book.

What will I get?

A manuscript assessment consists of a PDF report containing an overview of your book, what target market it is likely to appeal to and detailing the areas for improvement. If it is fiction this is likely to go into plot, characters, tension, structure and marketability. If it is non-fiction then the information quality, cohesion, logic, language and usefuless will be assessed.

Fiction genres I prefer
  • Fantasy
  • Science-fiction
  • Speculative fiction
  • Young adult fiction
  • Contemporary fiction
  • Historical fiction
  • Not horror, not erotica
Non-fiction subject matter I prefer

I would usually be willing to be a non-fiction manuscript assessor on any subject matter, however I am most interested in:

  • Arts manuscript assessment, especially literature, publishing, writing and creativity
  • Science manuscript assessment, especially computer science, biology, paleontology, human health, psychology (I also have personal experience with bipolar, anxiety, depression, autism and ADHD), astronomy and environmental science
  • History manuscript assessment, incl. culture and sociology
  • Business and self-help manuscript assessment, eg. marketing and economics
  • Philosophy manuscript assessment, eg. spirituality and cosmology

About me

I am a writer and an editor, someone who loves reading, writing and editing. I wrote an 8,000-word novella when I was nine years old. I completed a Bachelor of Communication majoring in writing and screen production at Griffith University.

When I graduated university in 2004 I was already employed in a full time office job. Being based in Brisbane created difficulties for me to pursue a career in publishing, writing and editing. Most businesses with such full time positions are in Sydney and Melbourne.

Instead I worked for a non-profit organisation that produced copious books, DVDs, magazines and newsletters. I learned all about marketing and communications on the job, and I have enjoyed a ten-year career in marcomms.

I eventually made my own way to work in publishing, writing and editing by founding my own business, Greenslade Creations on the side. In 2011 I branched out into ebooks with a subsidiary named Australian eBook Publisher and was working in my business full time.

With employees running the publishing side of my business now I am self-employed as an editor and marketing copywriter.

I am available now to work on your manuscript!
